Environmental Aspects Register Template
Instructions for Use
Purpose: This register identifies environmental aspects of Swedwise's activities, evaluates their significance, and documents controls and objectives.
How to Complete:
- Identify Activities/Processes: List all business activities (e.g., office operations, business travel, IT services delivery)
- Determine Environmental Aspects: For each activity, identify what interacts with the environment (e.g., energy consumption, waste generation, travel emissions)
- Identify Environmental Impacts: State the potential or actual effect on the environment (e.g., climate change, resource depletion, pollution)
- Assess Conditions: Indicate whether the aspect occurs under Normal operations, Abnormal conditions (maintenance, startup), or Emergency situations
- Evaluate Significance: Score against criteria (Scale, Severity, Probability, Legal compliance) - use rating scale 1-5
- Calculate Total Score: Sum the criteria scores to determine overall significance
- Determine Significance: Aspects with score ≥12 are considered Significant and require objectives/targets
- Document Controls: List existing controls that manage or mitigate the aspect
- Set Objectives/Targets: For significant aspects, reference specific environmental objectives or targets (from Objectives Register)
- Review: Update register annually or when activities change significantly
Significance Scoring Criteria (Rate 1-5 for each):
- Scale: How widespread is the impact? (1=localized, 5=global)
- Severity: How serious is the environmental impact? (1=negligible, 5=severe)
- Probability: How likely is the impact to occur? (1=rare, 5=continuous)
- Legal: Is there legal/regulatory compliance risk? (1=no regulations, 5=strict regulations with penalties)
Review Frequency: At least annually, or when:
- New activities introduced
- Operations or processes change significantly
- Legal requirements change
- Significant environmental incidents occur
- Management review identifies need
